Oh Yeah, I'm There

First of all, I have to ask all of you who have ever done cycles if you have ever been put on pr.ome.trium. I started it Friday night, and took the first dose just before bed. I've been on progesterone before, but not pr.ome.trium. I am supposed to take it twice a day, and the pharmacist warned me that she was also taking it and that it always made her really tired, but she only had to take it once a day, so she wished me good luck. Thanks.

Saturday morning I took my second dose with breakfast, then headed out to go grocery shopping with Baby Bean. First we went to Cost.co, which is probably 7 or so miles from our house. We got in and out, and then on the way to the next store, I started to feel funny. Just a little tired, nothing big, so we soldiered on. About 5 minutes later I really started to feel it. Within another 5 minutes, I knew I was in trouble and needed to get my child home and out of the car I was driving ASAP. By the time I got home, my speech was slurred and I felt like I was on really heavy narcot.ics. I could barely move. It took everything I had to tell my husband what was going on and then make it to my bed where I crashed for hours. When I finally came to, I told my husband there is absolutely, positively NO WAY I can do that during a work day. OUT.OF.THE.QUESTION!

So my question now is, if you have ever been on it, were you supposed to do it twice a day? And if you have ever been on it, did you have similar side effects? Cause holy crap that was bad!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I want to share a quote with all of you from the Making Babies book I read last week because I know once you read it, you will all say, "Oh yeah, I'm (have been) there." A bit of a side note, this quote is specifically about the luteal phase of the cycle.
"This can be the most anxiety-provoking part of your cycle, waiting to see if your period will com. Once ovulation has passed, the optimistic feelings and excess energy of the follicular phase diminish, and women tend to become pensive and reflective."
Apparently there is a science behind all of our feelings throughout our cycles. You know how once AF comes you feel like you just got punched in the gut but then you get over it and then are excited to try again a few days later? Well, according to this book that is because once AF shows your estrogen starts to build, and estrogen apparently "tends to put you in a positive frame of mind and increase your feelings of well-being." Who knew? So the more it builds, the more positive you feel. Then when you ovulate and it decreases and progesterone takes over, you start to feel a little less hopeful. I found that very interesting.
(Full book review coming up, I swear!)
In closing, I would like anyone reading this blog to know that there are so many reasons I blog. One of the main reasons is that I like to share the information I have gleaned about infertility through my own battles. My line of thinking is that if I want to know this information, someone else out there does as well, so I put it out there in hopes that it will help someone else on their journey.
This blog is about helping.
If you happen across my blog, please keep that in mind. Also know that any of the blogs listed in my Favorite Blogs side bar are women I consider friends. I read their blogs, and as is the case more often than not, I have had some kind of contact with these women besides just leaving comments to one another. Yes, we do communicate outside of blogland. Occasionally we meet up, or just talk on the phone. So if you should hop from my blog to any of theirs, please, please be nice to them. Realize that they are my friends, and I am fiercely loyal. Please always remember that they are struggling and the last thing they need is added negativity in their lives. By all means, visit them, but show them some love and respect because they deserve nothing less.
Thank you,
That explaination kinda makes sense to me. I once saw a tv show that had researched and found that a woman's face during ovulation is far more attractive to a man which kinda makes sense and ties in nicely with what you were saying. The body is completely fascinating!
I was on prometrium, but not oral tabs... Nope, mine were going in another hole. And let me tell you - it was a mess!
I remember being more tired and my boobs for sure hurting, but... nothing like you described. That sounds extreme friend! If it happens again, I would definitely call your doctor!
This is really interesting, I'm currently on progesterone three times a day (i've been bleeding since December, no cysts on my ovaries and although i've been on the progesterone for over a week my lining is still 3cm thick)
The progesterone is killing me. I'm the same as you, I can't talk i'm so tired.
I'm dreading next week when I go back to Uni!
Anyway,
Let me know how you get on...
xx
I'm sorry if someone was negative to one of your blog friends. :(
I've never been on prometrium, but those side effects sound pretty severe. Hope you get it figured out. Thinking of you.
Sometimes I worry that I overshare on my blog but then I stop and think that if I'm going through it then others are too and hope that my experiences can help them... hence talking about my vagina and stuff ;)
Sorry that you got so tired from the prometrium! I've only ever taken Crinone and PIO, not prometrium and both of those seem to do ok with my body. In fact I actually feel more balanced and happy on progesterone, which is somewhat opposite of what your book says. Ah hunam bodies, they sure do mess with your head sometimes, huh?
Amazing! I'm so very sorry - I've been so behind on commenting. But it sounds like you've been busy! I'm very excited to hear how this acupuncture and chiroprator experience changes you. I have all the hope in the world that this works for you!!!
My blog helps me too. I don't know what prompted your conversation about your bloggy friends, but I feel the exact same way!!! I couldn't do this without you ladies!
Hmmm... I have been on prometrium but I don't remember if it was once or twice a day. I know I took it for ten days to get my period started, but I think it was once a day. I didn't have any problems being on it, but that is super scary that you had such a hard time! Your body hates hormones!
Did someone leave a mean comment for someone? That makes me sad :( this is all hard enough already.
I'm soooo sorry about the prometrium...wow! Sounds so scary! I wish I knew more about it but I don't. I hope you get some wonderful advice from others.
Love you girl! Thanks for being such an important part of my life! ((HUGS))
Wow those side-effects sound really scary! I hope you get it worked out.
Also, I wanted to drop by to say thank you so much for your comment and your suggestions. I am still waiting on af (or bfp!), but if it doesn't come soon, I am definitely making an appointment. And I will ask about the u/s. Thanks again so much!
I took prometrium... I think there was a point my RE had me taking 6 pills a day when I was bleeding in early pregnancy and was bleeding. It was awful. I couldn't even get out of bed. It made me extremely dizzy, light headed, lethargic...
I also took crinone and that stuff was better (is a suppository so it NOT systemic like the pills are) but it was a real mess.
I sure hope you get to feeling better!
Are you using the Prometrium orally or as a suppository? I have only ever used it as a suppository. I had to take it twice a day in Dec 09 before I miscarried and I did get very sleepy from it but nowhere near as bad as you described. This pregnancy I used the prometrium once a day (evenings before bed) for the length of my first trimester and I think since it was done at bedtime I really didn't notice any side effects because I was sleeping.
Hi love, I have only ever been on Crinone and Provera, so no help there, although it made me tired was not that bad, you know? I'm so sorry this happened, how scary. What a relief you made it home in time. Really interesting quote from that book, I've always felt much more positive after the first 3 days or so of AF. It's definitely very true!!
Take care :)
Hey girl,
I was on prometrium to support the pregnancy (which as you know we lost) and they were these yellow egg shaped capsules that I had to insert you know... my RE said that I could take it orally, but it would make me really really tired that way.... so he prescribed it to me to insert it vaginally instead. I asked my cousin (she's a pharmacists) because I was under the impression that what I was getting were suppositories (the capsules looked nothing like the suppositories that I knew of) but I guess she said the one they prescribed me, people take either orally or vaginally... I have to say, I didn't feel that tired from it....
Hey Chelle,
I was also on pro.metrium, but the suppositories. I got tired, and super crazy, but not as tired as you are describing. Maybe you could switch to the suppository instead? It's probably worth a try...
